Tinker

Tinker’s story is kind of like the song “The Cat Came Back”. Tinker is a cat, a very large grey tiger with a face that looks like Ron Pearlman. He was my late landlord’s cat, whom was very much like a grandmother to me. Dotsie Hauser lived two doors down from the store and owned my building. She had her store there for many years and in many reincarnations. Over the years she had a myriad of many animals but Tinker and Annie were the two cats she had in the late stages of her life. Tinker was a bruiser that did not care that much for affection but loved his home and being the king of his corner. When Dotsie was moved to a nursing home she requested her cats be with her. Her son and daughter-in-law obliged and prepared them for the journey to Tannersville. Within weeks of being there with her, Tinker escaped and disappeared. Annie lived out her life with Dotsie in the nursing home. TWO YEARS LATER, a tenant above my store’s son was on the sidewalk and yelled to his Dad, isn’t that Tinker? Hasn’t he been missing for years? Well, sure enough it was. He had found his way home. He lived as an outdoor cat until I was in the store and he got sick with a cold. I came down to find him crying and sick, and he let me pick him up. And take him into the store, and he did not freak out, he laid in my lap for days until he got better. He has since taken up residency in the store and does not even like to go out that much anymore. His mom was able to see how happy he was in the store before she passed and he is now very much attached to me. He only lets about 3 people pet him, he hides when he is busy, but he loves to watch people from the window.
